Nu-Steel Homes Australia
Service and Support

Nu-Steel Homes is in an ideal position to meet the requirements of all potential new home buyers. Our range of building options allows you to choose the level of your involvement. You may wish to simply manage the building process, construct your new home yourself, have your home constructed by a licensed builder, or a combination of these options. Nu-Steel Homes can provide an option to suit you. We offer a total system.
Nu-Steel Homes is the number one supplier to the owner- manager and owner-builder markets, as well as being a major contributor to the licensed builder market.

Owner-building
Nothing could be more rewarding than building your own home. This option is ideally suited to people with a reasonable level of practical skill who are looking to maximise the financial savings available.

Nu-Steel Homes will provide you with a comprehensive Construction Manual and Construction Video to show you how it's done, and the Nu-Steel Homes staff are available to provide on-going advice. As an owner-builder you take on the responsibilities of the licensed builder. You may perform most of the work yourself, however, we recommend you engage specialists for various aspects - in particular, footings, brickwork, electrical, plaster jointing, plumbing and drainage. Components are delivered to your site in stages, in the same way as for an owner-manager. The wall frames and roof trusses are pre- and numbered for easy on-site assembly. The entire frame of an average-sized home can be erected in a weekend.

Owner-managing
Owner-managing is a perfect option if you don't really have the time or the practical skills to perform the building work yourself. It merely requires you to co-ordinate the project - in particular, the sub-contractors. Effectively, you become the project manager - a very rewarding experience.
A range of standard services from Nu-Steel Homes applies regardless of the building option you choose. They include:
  • Floor plan design assistance
  • After-sales technical advice
  • Advice on local authority requirements
  • Product selection advice
  • Insurance information
  • Contractual advice
  • Maintenance guidelines
Following the Nu-Steel Homes Construction Manual and Video, step-by-step, you direct the building process. Nu-Steel Homes will arrange delivery of materials to your site in stages and our professional consultants are available to provide on-going advice. The ability to maintain control of the project while at the same time achieving a degree of saving, combined with the sense of achievement, are all major advantages of owner-managing.

Licensed Building
If you don't have the time or skills to be actively involved in the construction of your new home, Nu-Steel Homes can arrange for it to be built for you. Under this option, once you have settled on the design, you need not be involved until it is time to hand over the keys. Nu-Steel Homes will provide your new home, as specified, ready to move in. You still enjoy all the other features of the Nu-Steel Homes system. You still have total design flexibility, the choice from a wide range of products and materials,on-going, professional consultant support, and of course, the strength of our steel framing system. You may elect to have the home built to lock-up, to pre-paint or completion - the choice is yours. Right around the country, Nu-Steel Homes is busy helping people just like you build the great Australian dream - your very own home - just the way you always imagined it and with all the features you wanted.

Five Star Energy
What does the 5 Star standard mean for you?
The 5 Star standard benefits the environment, drives innovation in design and product development and provides savings for consumers. It ensures that all new homes offer improved energy and water saving features by way of a home rating system similar to that used for domestic appliances.
The 5 Star standard is performance-based rather than prescriptive, allowing designers, builders and home-owners flexibility and choice on how to design and construct a 5 Star house. At the same time, this encourages innovation, helps minimise costs and, importantly, benefits the environment.
With appropriate design and attention to details, the cost of complying with the 5 Star standard is minimised.
5 Star homes are cheaper to run
An independent report has revealed that 5 Star adds only around two per cent to the average upfront cost of building, and this is offset by reduced household energy and water bills over the life of a home. Average annual savings from 5 Star homes:
• $200 on household heating and cooling bills
• $100 saving on hot water for installing a solar hot water system and
• $50 saving on water bills for installing a rainwater tank - and the potential for even more if used wisely.
5 Star homes also need smaller heating and cooling systems that cost less to buy and to operate.
5 Star homes are more comfortable
Even without using the heating or cooling systems, 5 Star homes are up to 5 degrees warmer in winter and 10 degrees cooler in summer than the typical 2 Star new home built prior to the introduction of the 5 Star standard.
5 Star homes are good for Victoria's economy
Annual energy savings in Victoria are estimated to be worth $30-40 million within five years of the introduction of 5 Star. Over the next 20 years the 5 Star standard will result in:
• Increased economic growth in Victoria of up to $570 million.
• 1,100 new jobs in the energy-efficient product manufacturing sector.
• More money on energy-efficient building products and services.
• Lower energy bills as 5 Star houses consume less energy for heating and cooling.
Star homes benefit the environment
Within five years, energy-efficient homes will save Victoria more than 200,000 tonnes of greenhouses gases annually. This is equivalent to removing 45,000 cars from our roads, or planting 750,000 trees. With the extension of 5 Star energy-efficiency measures to home renovations, even greater benefits will be realised.
Homes that require less cooling will help reduce pressure on Victoria's power supplies during high-use summer periods.
